Week 22
Horsham D vs Foresters A
The awesome “A” team produced yet another star performance and brought the championship to the Huts after a 36 year wait. The superb quartet of Wes Bush-Harris, Adam Todd, Dave Steel & Mike Robinson have produced top quality Table Tennis all season and are worthy champions. Horsham D struggled all night, and Gordon Hall, Glyn Hydes & Nick Smith all left empty handed. Wes, Adam & Dave stashed a further 9 points into the champions suitcase.
Horsham B vs Horsham A
In this local derby, Horsham B pounded the clubs top team and last years champions. Steve Barby supporting a 84% average, Steve Pound (73%) and son Dan (44%) took full advantage of an out of sorts A team The two Steves both put up trebles and Dan contributed a couple. Tony Catt was the A teams only contributor with a single, Alan Stone found the pace too hot and Dan Barna suffering a shoulder injury had to withdraw from the match.
Horsham C vs Foresters B
The HC’s came up against a good Forester team who were battling for third place in the league. The men from the huts started out in superb fashion by winning the first five games. Horsham rallied slightly by picking up games 6 & 7 but fell away again and lost the last two. A Johnnie Clark treble (83%) and doubles from Nick Gamblin and Gerry Pugh were too strong for Horsham, Graham Beaney playing up from Div 1 found the going tough and singles from Colin Jones and Graham Carter were all that Horsham could manage.
Horsham E vs Crawley Community B
Third placed Crawley needed a good win to maintain the league position and just about achieved it. Fielding a strong team they recorded the 6 points necessary for third place. An excellent treble from Mayur Majithia (90%) a double from Barrie Gilbert (79%) a single from John Calcutt now recovered from injury, was too much for Rory Scott who put up 2 Marc Collins with a single and Michael Bridger.
Horsham F vs Crawley Community A
Bottom placed Horsham went looking for a miracle and nearly pulled it off, they recorded their third win of the season but the points tally was not enough. Battling doubles from Gary Pells and Alex Morrison, and a Stephen Hoad single meant they fell just short. Two each from Bipin Majithia & Andy Meads, Steve Chambers not contributing means that the HF’s will be listening to the fat lady in the closed seson
East Grinstead A vs Foresters C
Two teams in relegation territory scrapped away all night. The Grinners needing at least 3 points were mightily relieved after putting four of em into the clubs survival pack. Another treble from star man Vinal Patel (74%) and a crucial single from Dennis Hayden, Harry Collins not contributing, was just enough. The FC’s in relegation danger themselves did just enough to ensure safety. Doubles from Jason Clark & Matt Craig, supported by a single from Chris Pullinger meant no ear plugs for them.
Week 21
Foresters A vs Horsham E
The “A” team secured this years championship with a 7 – 2 win against mid table Horsham. Adam Todd and Nick Gamblin each put up trebles, and were supported by a Dave Steel single. Mark Collins and Rory Scott each each contributed a single, although Rory just missed out on a double by going down 12 – 10 in the 5th to Nick. Erik Van- Mol not scoring.
Crawley Community B vs Horsham F
The “B” boys reclaimed 3rd place with a comprehensive win over premier strugglers Horsham. Trebles for Barrie Gilbert and John Callcut, well supported by a double from Phil Richardson, put the boot in to the bottom club. A battling Gary Pells single were all that Horsham could manage, Alex Morrison and Stephen Hoad not contributing.
Crawley Community A vs East Grinstead A
A battling performance from the Grinners hauled themselves up the table and out of Fat Lady territory, yet another treble from star man Vinal Patel and a single for Dennis Hayden, Harry Collins not scoring, put 4 priceless points into the kitty.
A solid performance from Crawley’s Bipin Majithia (2) Graham Green (2) and a Steve Chambers single gave Crawley the win. Looking ahead to the last match the scheduler could not have picked a better contest East Grinstead A vs Foresters C, nice one.
Foresters B vs Horsham D
Oh dear, Oh deerie deerie me. Biffed. The men from the Huts were in excellent form, 1,2,3’s for Johnny Clarke, Robin Williams & Gerry Pugh, Graham Barnes, Glyn Hydes & Nick Smith, took an early bath.
Foresters C vs Horsham B
Foresters knew they were in for a tough match and so it proved, Horsham B fielded a strong team and went hunting for points. The two Steves Barby & Pound both put up trebles and Dan Pound supported well with his own double. Phil Nicholls scoring Foresters only point. Inken Diederich after a good recent run failed to score, and Jason Clark found the going tough.
Horsham C vs Horsham A
Mid table Horsham C took four points off second place Horsham A. Graham Carter, in good form, picked up a double and singles from Colin Jones & young Michael Bridger put up the 4 points. Another treble from super star Dan Barna and a double from George Harris enabled the “A” team to squeeze a 5 – 4 victory. However spare a thought for the “A” teams Tony Catt he lost all matches in 5, 11 – 9, 11 – 9, and finally 13 – 11. Oops!
Week 20
Horsham F vs Foresters A
Horsham knew they were in for a tough time and so it proved. The “A” team Juggernaut putting another 9 points into an already bulging kit bag. The superb trio of Adam Todd (91%), Wesley Bush-Harris (96%) and Mike Robinson (67%) showed no mercy at all to Gary Pells, Alex Morrison and Stephen Hoad, although in a thrilling rear guard action Mike just squeezed past Stephen 18 – 16 in the 5th, other than that it was one way traffic.
Horsham D vs Horsham A
The “D” team inserted the boot to their colleagues title hopes. Horsham A collecting the win but only just, a good treble from Tony Catt (69%) and a double from Dan Barna (70%), secured the 5 points, Alan Shipley playing up from Div 1 not contributing. Nick Smith with a couple and singles from Glyn Hydes & Graham Barnes maintained the “D” teams mid table position.
East Grinstead A vs Crawley Comm B
The Grinners now find themselves back in the relegation battle. A powerful Crawley team scented a maximum only to be thwarted by a single from Vinal Patel. Harry Collins and Dennis Hayden off the pace. Mayur Majihia, John Calcutt each posted trebles and Barrie Gilbert supported with a double. Good to see John back after injury.
Horsham C vs Horsham B
A good contest between two mid table teams with the “B” boys coming out on top.
A Steve Barby treble, Steve is right up there supporting a (82%) average. A double for Steve Pound and a single from son Dan, pocketed the 6 points. A battling Graham Carter double and a Colin Jones single put up the “C’s) three points. Chris Vincent playing premier for the first time this season found the going tough.
Horsham E vs Foresters B
Another good mid table contest, Horsham, led by a Rory Scott treble squeezed home by one point in 9, a Mark Collins double ensured the win and the 5 points, Erik Van Mol not contributing this time. Foresters Johnny Clark battled away and secured a double, Johnny’s playing to (81%) this season, and singles for Nick Gamblin and a returning Gerry Pugh put up the teams 4 points.
Crawley Comm A vs Foresters C
A super treble from Crawley’s Bipin Majithia, supported by singles from Graham Green and Steve Chambers, saw the team home by one point in nine.
Foresters, Inken Diederich played well for her double missing out on a treble by falling 14 – 12 to Bipin in the 4th, Chris Pullinger and Jason Clark singles placed 4 points into the “C” teams knapsack.
Week 19
Foresters C vs Horsham C
All is not lost for the Foresters, another priceless 3 points were gleaned from this match. The trio of Philip Nicolls, Inken Diederich & Matt Craig all posted singles. However the experienced duo of Colin Jones (3) Graham Carter (3) gave the HC’s 6 points. Graham Beaney not scoring tonight.
Horsham B vs Horsham D
Horsham B consolidated their mid table position with a good win over the “D” team. A good treble from Steve Pound set them on their way, although he had to battle against Graham Barnes, just squeezing home 13 – 11 in the 5th. Steve Barby was in good form putting up his own treble and Dan Pound supported with a single. Gordon Hall and Graham Barnes each put up one for the “D“team Nick Smith out of sorts.
Foresters B vs Horsham F
The men from the huts move back into 3rd place with this good win over Horsham. Johnny Clark recorded a good treble, Johnny is having a good season supporting an 82% average. Robin Williams (66%) and Chris Pullinger both contributed a couple. Gary Pells put up the two points for Horsham, Alex Morrison & Martin Hoad did not trouble the scorer.
Crawley Community B vs Crawley Community A
In this local derby the “B” team put the bite on their club mates and did not let go.
Graham Faulkner and Barrie Gilbert put up trebles and a John Calcutt double pocketed the 8 points, although Graham had to scrap hard in two games winning 13 – 11 in the 5th against Bipin Majithia and 12 – 10 in the 5th against Steve Chambers. Bipin scored the only point Graham Green and Steve not contributing.
Foresters A vs East Grinstead A
A regulation win for the League leaders, triples all round for Adam Todd (89%) Wes Bush Harris (96%) and Mike Robinson (65%) proved to be too strong for Harry Collins, Dennis Hayden & Andy Hayes.
Horsham A vs Horsham E
The “A” team done the business on their club mates trebles for youngsters Dan Barna & George Harris, supported by a double from Tony Catt, made it a difficult night for the “E’s” Rory Scott managing the teams only point, Eric Van – Mol and Matt Van- Yperen finding life difficult.
Week 18
Horsham B vs Horsham E
The H.B’s Steve Barby put in a good performance and registered a well earned Hat Trick. Steve Pound maintaining his good form posted a double and son Dan, maintaining the family tradition put up a single. Dan led 2-1 in games and 10 – 6 in the 4th against Rory but could not close it out. He also led 2-0 in games against Erik, before losing in 5. Rory Scott posted a double Erik Van-Mol a single but no luck for Marc Collins.
Horsham A vs Horsham F
Newcomer Nadini Abeygunawardana took a comfortable maximum on her debut. Dan Barna and Tony Catt both recorded doubles and re inforced second place for the “A” team. Stephen Hoad and Gary Pells, each recorded singles but no luck for Nora Szabo.
Horsham C vs Horsham D
In this mid table battle a Graham Carter treble supported by a double from Colin Jones, Alex Morrison not scoring, was just enough to secure the win. Nick Smith with a good win over Colin, put up two points singles each for Gordon Hall and Glyn Hydes.
Foresters A vs Crawley Community A
The champions elect did the business on an out of sorts Crawley, One more treble for Wes Bush Harris and Adam Todd and a double from Dave steel fighting back the pain of a pulled muscle, were just too strong for Bipin Majithia (1) Graham Green & Steve Chambers.
Foresters B vs East Grinstead A
Doubles all round for Johnny Clark, Robin Williams & Nick Gamblin put up the 6 points however a terrific treble for East Grinsteads Vinal Patel kept the Grinners outside of the relegation scrap, No luck for Russel Foreman or Andy Hayes.
Crawley Community B vs Foresters C
John Callcut, Andy Meads & Stuart Chambers squeezed past the Forester relegation strugglers. John returning from injury showed he had lost none of his skill and posted a come back treble, maestro Andy Meads supported with a couple. Stuart Chambers out of the game for some time struggled on his return. Jason Clark, playing well put up a double and was supported by singles from Inken Diederich and Chris Pullinger.
Week 17
Foresters C vs Horsham D
Struggling Foresters found the going tough against mid table Horsham, Phil Nicholls and Matt Craig scored one a piece, Chris Pullinger unable to contribute. A solid performance from Glyn Hydes (3) Graham Barnes (2) and Gordon Hall (2) heaped relegation woes on to the bottom club. Mind you Gordon had to dig deep against Matt just coming through 14 – 12 in the fifth.
Foresters B vs Crawley Comm A
Foresters re claimed third place with this 6 – 3 win against Crawley. Don Thomas playing up from Div 1 found the going tough but trebles from Johnny Clarke (82%) and Robin Williams (66%) banked the 6 points. Crawley’s, Bipin Majithia, Graham Green and Steve Chambers all picked up singles.
Horsham B vs Horsham F
The mid table B’s notched up a good 7 – 2 win against the H.F’s, Steve Pound (69%) Steve Barby (78%) and Dan Pound (42%) were just too strong for the opposition, singles from Nora Szabo and Gary Pells, put up the two points. Alex Morrison went home empty handed.
Horsham A vs East Grinstead A
Horsham A wrapped up a regulation win, and maintained second place, with this 8 – 1 win against the now struggling East Grinstead. Trebles for Alex Forshaw ( 88%) Dan Barna (69%) and a double from Tony Catt (67%) proved to be too much for the Grinners. Vinal Patel with a handsome win against Tony putting up their only point, Dennis Hayden and Harry Collins wondered what was for tea.
Foresters A vs Crawley Comm B
In an excellent match with good players demonstrating a high skill level, the league leaders had to battle for every point. Foresters Adam Todd registered a hat trick but was taken to the wire by Mayur Majithia 11 – 9 in the fifth. Wes Bush Harris suffered only his second defeat by going down to Mayur 11 – 7 in the fifth and Dave Steel putting up one point just squeezing past Andy Meads 14 – 12 in the fifth, gave the “A” team the 6 points. A double from Mayur and a single from Barrrie Gilbert put 3 points into the Crawley Kit Bag, Andy Meads not contributing on this occasion
Horsham C vs Horsham E
A good contest between two mid table teams saw the E team squeeze home by one point in nine, The C teams Colin Jones and Nick Smith put up two each but Graham Beaney playing up once more from Div 1 felt the heat, the HE’s team captain Rory Scott (90%) posted a treble and Mark Collins and Erik Van – Mol put up one each
Week 16
Foresters A vs Foresters C
The “A” team ensured maximum points after dishing out a comprehensive bashing to their Club mates, no mercy here. Nick Gamblin, Inken Diedrich & Dave Steel were ruthless in obtaining their maximums. The all Div 1 team of Alison East, Don Thomas & Dave Edwards were unable to compete at this level.
East Grinstead A vs Horsham B
Horsham consoidated their mid table position with this comprehensive win against a struggling East Grinstead. The Grinners after some good results are now slipping back in to Fat Lady territory. Vinal Patel scored their only point while Dennis Hayden and Russell Foreman were unable to contribute. However four matches went to 5 and the Grinners lost all of them, Russell losing in 5 to Dan Pound 10 – 12 and Vinal losing in 5 to Steve Barby 10 – 12. The “H.B’s” trio of Steve Barby (3) Steve Pound (3) and Dan Pound (2) took full advantage and deposited 8 points into the Kitty.
Crawley Community A vs Horsham A
A good looking Crawley team battled away and took three points off 2nd place Horsham, could have been better though, Bipin Majithia had been 9 – 3 up in the fifth against Dan Barna and somehow managed to lose 12 – 14. he was found later gazing into his pint and shaking his head. Bipin did put up one point and singles from Graham Green and Steve Chambers secured the three points, Steve putting in a good performance with his win over Alex Forshaw. Doubles all round for Alex (87%), Tony Catt & Dan Barna.
Horsham E vs Horsham D
A good contest between two mid table teams Horsham E running out eventual winners and pocketing 6 points. Rory Scott (90%) posted his customary treble, a double from Mark Collins, and one from Eric Van- Mol did the business. Nick Smith, Graham Barnes & Glyn Hydes each put up a single.
Horsham F vs Horsham C
Struggling Horsham F needed lady luck to smile on them, unfortunately when you need that fickle lady she aint nowhere in sight. Four matches went to 5 and the H.F’s lost them all. Singles for Gary Pells and Alex Morrison, Stephen Hoad not contributing were all they could manage. Colin Jones (3) Graham Carter (3) and Graham Beaney (1) secured the 7 points.
Crawley Community B vs Foresters B
A short handed Crawley team did well to pick up the four points, Andy Meads and Barrie Gilbert both scored doubles, however Andy and Barrie had to work hard in overcoming Robin Williams, both matches went against Robin 11 – 7 in the fifth. Johnny Clark picked up a treble, and Chris Pullinger recorded one.
Week 15
Horsham A vs Crawley Community B
Horsham, bounced back from last weeks mauling in impressive style, Alex Forshaw and Tony Catt both recorded good treble’s and Dan Barna supported well with a double. High flying Crawley were comprehensively biffed with only a Barry Gilbert single to show for their evenings work, Andy Meads and a returning Phil Richardson struggled all evening.
Foresters B vs Foresters A
It ws the “FB’s” turn to feel the power of the League leaders. The “A” team are a formidable outfit and worthy front runners. Wesley Bush-Harris with an incredible 95% average racked up another treble, an Adam Todd treble (78%) did his average no harm and a double from Nick Gamblin overpowered the opposition. Johnny Clark recorded the “FB’s only point, although Robin Williams lost out to Nick 11 – 7 in the 5th, Chris Pullinger found the going tough.
Horsham D vs Horsham F
League strugglers Horsham F put 6 priceless points into the Kit bag with this good win against their mid table stable mates. Gary Pells was in good form and put up a treble, Stephen Hoad supported with two and Michael Bridger recorded his first premier victory. The “D’s” Gordon Hall registered a double although had a terrific tussle with Michael just squeezing the victory 12 – 10 in the fifth, Martin Hoad playing up from C1 put up one point, Matt Van Yperen also playing up did not trouble the statistician.
Horsham B vs Crawley Community A
Mid table Horsham put the bite on Crawley and did not let go. Trebles all round for Steve Barby, Steve Pound and Dan Pound, although Dan had to work hard for his supper, all three of his matches going to five. The “A” team were given the scraps and Graham Green, Steve Chambers & John Milward went home hungry.
Horsham C vs East Grinstead A
The Grinners knew they were in for a tough match and so it proved, mid table Horsham fielded two premier stalwarts, Graham Carter and Colin Jones and they duly put 6 points into the kitty, Graham Beaney playing up from C1 recorded his first premier point with a good display against Harry Collins. Vinal Patel and Dennis Hayden registered one each, Harry Collins not contributing on this occasion.
Foresters C vs Horsham E
Well, Well, Well, lets hear it for the “C” team, bringing home the bacon by one point in nine, doubles for Phil Nicholls (50%) and Matt Craig, playing up from Div 1,well supported by a Paul Szczegolski single, also playing up, stunned mid table Horsham. Rory Scott (89%) leading from the front recorded a comfortable treble, Mark Collins was restricted to a single, however Eric Van – Mol was off the pace.
Week 14
Foresters B vs Foresters C
The F.B’s of Johnny Clark, Robin Williams & Phil Nicholls served up a 9 – 0 beating to their Club mates. Jason Clark, Chris Pullinger & Inken Diederich, reeled from the tables contemplating not only a heavy defeat but two points adrift at the wrong end of the table.
Crawley Community A vs Horsham C
A double from Bipin Majithia, supported by a Graham Green single, put three points into the Crawley Kit Bag, Steve Chambers not contributing this week. A well earned treble from Colin Jones, a double from Graham Carter, and a single from high flying Nora Szabo enabled Horsham to trouser 6 points and maintain their Mid Table position.
Horsham F vs Horsham E
The “F” team hauled themselves off the bottom with four priceless points, Gary Pells leading the way with a double, and Steven Hoad & Alex Morrison each contributed one. However the H.E’s, underpinned once again by a Rory Scott treble collected the 5 points, Mark Collins weighed in with two just squeezing past Steven 11 – 9 in the fifth, Erik Van -Mol, out of sorts.
East Grinstead A vs Horsham D
Grinstead’s Vinal Patel was the teams bread winner, and posted another treble, although he was pushed all the way by Nick Smith, Nick just going down 11 – 9 in the fifth, Andy Hayes and Russell Foreman not troubling the scorers. A good all round performance by Nick, Gordon Hall and Glyn Hydes all posting doubles was enough to collect the 6 points.
Foresters A vs Horsham A
This eagerly awaited clash of the top two failed to ignite. The men from the Huts were in tremendous form and the watching crowd could only sit back and admire the skills on show. A seemingly unstoppable Wes Bush – Harris put up yet another treble. Wes is supporting an incredible 97% average although he had a battle against Alex, getting home 12 – 10 in the fifth, great doubles from Adam Todd (67%) and Mike Robinson (62%) rolled over an out of sorts Horsham. Singles from Steve Barby and Alex Forshaw were all that could be gleaned, young gentleman Dan Barna unable to contribute.
Crawley Community B vs Horsham B
A super performance from the “B” boys, saw them rise to joint second place. Trebles from Mayur Majithia & Graham Falkner, supported by a double from the effervescent Andy Meads secured 8 points and encouraged their title aspirations. A Steve Pound single put up Horsham’s only point, Dan Pound and Graham Beaney, found the going heavy.
Week 13
Horsham B vs Foresters A
Horsham were swept away by a powerful performance from the new league leaders. Steve Pound recording their only point, son Dan battled away losing in 5 to Nick Gamblin 11 – 8 whilst Martin Hoad stepping up from C1 had a hard time. Trebles from Wes Bush – Harris and Mike Robinson supported by a double from Nick put a further 8 points into the Kitty. The men from the Huts are looking good.
Horsham A vs Foresters B
The “A” team knew they were in for a tough match and so it proved, A good Foresters team scented an upset and played accordingly, despite going 4 -1 down they stuck to their task rallying well to lose by one point in 9. In a match full of excitement and good play 5 games went to 5. Horsham’s Tony Catt just falling to Johnny Clark 12 – 10 in the fifth. Steve Barby and Dan Barna each posted doubles for Horsham and Tony chipped in with one. Adam Todd put up a double in his first match, and was well supported by singles from Johnny Clark and Robin Williams.
Horsham E vs East Grinstead A
Horsham had too much fire power for the Grinners. Rory Scott, (92%) Horsham’s captain led the way yet again with a team leading treble, Marc Collins putting up 2 and Erik Van – Mol supporting with a single. East Grinstead teenager Vinal Patel registered a one two, Vinal is having a good season in his debut in the Prem supporting a 79% average, Harry Collins put one over on Eric but no cigar for Russell Foreman.
Horsham F vs Foresters C
In this relegation battle, with Fat Lady hovering, things were likely to be tense, and they were. Horsham’s Steve Hoad battled away for his two points, just missing out on a treble by going down 11 – 9 in the fifth to Jason Clark. In another 5 set thriller he squeezed home 12 – 10 in the fifth against Paul Szczegolski. Gary Pells recorded his own hard fought double, but young Matt Van Yperen struggled at this level. Two each for Jason and Paul and a single for Chris Pullinger gave Foresters the 5 points.
Horsham D vs Crawley Community A
Another confrontation between two lower order teams saw the H.D’s come out on top by one point in nine. Horsham’s Glyn Hydes & Nick Smith posted two each and Gordon Hall supported with a single, Glyn missing out on a treble going down 11 – 7 in the fifth to Graham Green. Nick looked a good bet for a treble until the wheels came off against Bipin. Doubles for Bipin and Graham put up the four points for Community, Steve Chambers just missing out 11 – 8 in the fifth to Gordon.
Horsham C vs Crawley Community B
The “B” boys are riding high and have claimed third place outright, another Barrie Gilbert treble (87%) led the line. Three from Andy Meads and a double from fast improving John Hook did the business on an out of sorts Horsham team. Graham Carter scored their only point, Nora Szabo losing in 5 to Andy, Graham Beaney wondered who he had upset
Week 12
Foresters C vs Horsham A
Horsham, find themselves back on top of the Premier pile with this comprehensive win over struggling Foresters. Alex Forshaw playing to a fantastic 94% Dan Barna 73% and Tony Catt 65% swept aside the opposition in a ruthless display of power ping. Chris Pullinger, Phil Nicholls & Paul Szczegolski had no answer.

Foresters find themselves back in second place after dropping two points to the H.C,s. Wes Bush-Harris put up yet another treble, Dave Steel pocketed his own hat trick and Mike Robinson chipped in with one. The “B” boys now find themselves in third place after a comprehensive win over Horsham. Barrie Gilbert and Andy Meads each put up three wins and an in form John Hook supported well with a double, narrowly missing out on his hat trick by falling 12 – 10 to Glyn Hydes in the fifth. Gordon Hall went home empty handed losing two matches both to 11 – 9 in the fifth. Nick Smith battled away but on this occasion was off the pace.
Foresters B vs Horsham B
Two good teams went head to head in this mid table battle of the “B“s with Horsham coming out on top by one point in nine. Horsham’s Steve Barby (81%) put up a treble and was well supported by a Steve Pound double, Alan Stone not troubling the scorers. Johnny Clarke (87%) posted a single just missing a double by going down 11 – 9 in fifth To Steve Pound, Nick Gambling put one into the kitty and a Robin Williams double secured 4 points.
Crawley Community A vs Horsham E
A good all round performance secured 6 points for the “A” team, Bipin Majithia, Graham Green and Steve Chambers all posted doubles, however Graham was taken to the wire in a five set thriller with Marc Collins, battling Steve Chambers obtained his double the hard way 11 – 7 in the fifth against Erik Van – Mol and 11 – 9 in the fifth against Marc Collins. Marc and Eric unable to contribute but Horsham’s captain Rory Scott put up a treble with an excellent all round performance.
East Grinstead A vs Horsham F
After a good performance last week East Grinstead were brought back down to earth in this relegation battle. A good treble from Horsham’s Steve Hoad, backed up by doubles from Gary Pells and Alex Morrison brought home the bacon for Horsham. A Dennis Hayden double put two points up for the E.G’s but Harry Collins and Martin Skitt were off the pace.
Week 11
Foresters A vs Horsham D
The “A” team established a two point lead at the top of the table, Wes Bush-Harris supporting a wonderful 96% average racked up yet another treble, Dave Steel working hard also posted a maximum, but was taken to 5 in two games, Nick Gamblin supporting the team well contributed a brace. The H.D’s of Graham Barnes (1) Nick Smith and Gordon Hall struggled to impose themselves. Never mind chaps it’s Crawley Comm B next week!
Horsham A vs Horsham B
Horsham A lost ground in this closely fought match. Alex Forshaw, (93%) one of Horsham’s rising young stars put up a treble but only just beat Steve Pound 12 – 10 in the 5th. Dan Barna supporting the team well picked up a double just falling in 5 to Steve Pound 10 – 12. Tony Catt (1) battling away took part in two 5 setters, going down 11 – 13 in the 5th to Dan Pound and winning 12 – 10 in the 5th against Steve. Steve Barby putting up a single. What a great match and a wonderfull advert for the game
Foresters B vs Horsham C
Another Foresters team packed with talent, and fully justifying third place. Johnny Clark (93%), Gary Bonner (89%) and Robin Williams (74%) tells it all, threesomes for Gary and Johnny and a double for Robin brought home the bacon for the FB’s. A battling win for Graham Carter 11 – 8 in the fifth over Robin provided Horsham’s only point Colin Jones and Michael Bridger had a tough time.
Crawley Comm B vs Horsham E
The “B” boys are running in to form, and this result consolidates 4th place. Barrie Gilbert (84%) collected his treble with an impressive perfomance, John Hook with a nice treble of his own and Mayur Majithia had too much gas for Horsham. Rory Scott (1) was the only success in a night of Ping Pain for Horsham, Marc Collins and Erik Van Mol went looking for the medicine chest.
Crawley Comm A vs Horsham F
Bipin Majithia (68%) led the line for Crawley and delivered a good treble, however he had to work hard in overcoming Gary Pells 11 – 9 in the 5th. Graham Green contributed a one, two and Steve Chambers supported well with a single. Horsham battled away and a double from Gary and a single from Alex Morrison put three points into the kitty Graham Beaney finding life in the Premier a little tough.
Foresters C vs East Grinstead A
Well done the Grinners, 6 priceless points into the kit bag inserts daylight between them and the bottom two. Terrific treble’s from Vinal Patel (80%) and Russel Foreman, Harry Collins out of sorts tonight, heaped pressure on the men from huts. Matt Craig up from Div 1, Jason Clark and Dave Edwards making his Thursday night debut all registered a single. The fat lady may be limbering up, but she is not, at this moment anyway, practising at East Grinstead.
Week 10
Horsham A vs Horsham C
Horsham, racked up 6 points, despite being a player short, Tony Catt and Dan Barna with three each brought home the bacon, Dan is enjoying a good season with a 70% average. Graham Carter, Colin Jones and Graham Barnes, battled away but no joy on the night.
Horsham D vs Foresters B
A powerful Foresters team had too much firepower for Horsham. Trebles for Robin Willams and Johnny Clarke, backed up by a brace from Gary Bonner swept away the HD’s Glyn Hydes salvaging their only point, Gordon Hall and Nick Smith lurched from the arena, wondering what was for tea.
East Grinstead A vs Crawley Community A
The Grinners fell just short by one point in nine, however they pocketed 4 priceless points, Vinal Patel leading the line with a superb treble, Vinal is having a great season, playing to a 78% average, Harry Collins backed up with a point, however Russell Foreman was unable to contribute. Bipin Majithia and Graham Green posted a double each, and a Steve Chambers single secured the win.
Horsham E vs Foresters A
The Foresters fielded what must be one of the strongest teams in this years competition and Horsham felt the full force, superb trebles from Mark Scutts and Wesley Bush Harris, fully supported by a Michael Robinson double, rammed home their title aspirations. Rory Scott the Horsham captain battled away and posted the teams only win, Mark Collins and Erik Van Mol off the pace.
Horsham F vs Crawley Community B
Oh dear, Oh deery deery me. The F team took a bashing, Gary Pells, Alex Morrison and Stephen Hoad, not troubling the scorer, although 3 games went to 5 none went the “F’s” way. Barry Gilbert, Andy Meads and John Hook showed no mercy as Crawley continue to climb the table.
Horsham vs Foresters C
Two mid table teams went head to head in this encounter, Horsham’s Steve Pound posted a hat trick and was well supported by son Dans double, Graham Beaney playing up from C1 found the going tough and came away empty handed. Jason Clark with a hard fought double, and singles for Phil Nicholls and Chris Pullinger meant the men from the huts fell just short by one point in nine.
Week 9
Horsham A vs Horsham D
Horsham A showed no mercy as they maintained their hold on the number 1 spot.
An impressive debut from George Harris (2) and trebles from Alex Forshaw and Daniel Barna, rounded off an impressive performance. It was left to Graham Barnes to put up the solitary point for the D team Nick Smith and Gordon Hall came up empty handed.
Horsham B vs Horsham C
The H.B’s were short of a player, but were they downhearted, were they despondent, were they eckers like. Steve Pound roaring defiance posted a magnificent treble backed up with a single from son Dan. Colin Jones and Graham Carter with two each and a single from Hungarian star Csaba Balint just about got the “C’s” home.
Crawley Comm B vs East Grinstead A
A powerfull Crawley team picked up 6 points from struggling East Grinstead, Barrie Gilbert leading the line picked up another treble, well supported by Andy Meads (2) and John Hook (1), however the Grinners showed fight and a double from Vinal Patel and one from Harry Collins put three priceless points into the kitty Dennis Hayden not able to contribute on this occasion. Vinal is having a great season with an average 76%.
Foresters A vs Horsham F
Oh Boy, the men from Huts are proving to be a formidable outfit, League averages of 94% for Wes Bush-Harris 62% for David Steel and 54% for Mike Robinson tells the tale and they had just too much firepower for Horsham. Wes and Mike both posted trebles and Dave notched up 2. Gary Pells scored the HF’s solitary point although Alex Morris fell in the 5th 11 – 9, Stephen Hoad off the pace.
Foresters B vs Horsham E
In another cracking match Horsham E squeezed past Foresters by one point in 9. Johnny Clark maintaining his 94% average put up a terrific double, Phil Nicholls and Gerry Pugh posted one each. An out of sorts Erik Van-Mol was unable to make an impression, however Mark Collins fully justifying his promotion from Div one picked up a brace, but the star of the show must be yer man himself, Rory Scott, supporting a 96% average he led the “E’s” magnificently, a wonderfull treble culminating in a spell binding last match against Johnny, Rory winning in 5, 18 -20 in the 4th and an incredible 14 – 16 in the 5th.
Foresters C vs Crawley Comm A
Foresters C trio of Jason Clark, Chris Pullinger and Alison East scored a brace each, well done to Alison who was playing up from Divison 1. Crawley look a bit unsettled with Steve Chambers and son Stuart not troubling the scorer, it was left to Bipin Majithia to register the teams three points. Bipins in good form and is playing to an average of 73%
Week 8
East Grinstead 2 – 7 Foresters A
It was Title Chasers vs Relegation fighters and there scoreline reflected who was in which position. Foresters took a comfortable win with Wesley Bush-Harris again leading the way with 3 wins while Dave Steel and Mike Robinson picked up 2 wins each. Robinson didn’t need to hit a ball to take his second as Martin Jezisek didn’t complete his matches. Sadly for Martin, when he did take part he ended up with the same amount of points… Harry Collins had the same fortunes as Jezisek but as usual for East Grinstead Vinal Patel was “the bread-winner” and picked up another 2. From EG’s 20 points, he has 16 of them.
Horsham D 6 – 3 Horsham B
Two mid-table Horsham teams played out a tight contest with the D’s eventually coming out of top. Graham Barnes was impressive in winning 3 and Glyn Hydes managed 2. Nick Smith picked up 1 win to complete the victory. For the B’s, Steve Pound led well with 2 and so Daniel got a single. Newcomer Michael Bridger found the going tough losing all three but took Smith close losing 11-9 in the 5th.
Horsham C 7 – 2 Foresters C
Horsham C seem to have snuck into the top 2 almost unnoticed with this 7-2 win over bottom side Foresters C. Nora Szabo won 3 and Colin Jones and Csaba Balint picked up braces (no they hadn’t been to the dentist!). Phil Nicholls rallied well for Foresters with 2 wins but that was it for them as Jason Clarke and Inken Diederich didn’t get on the score board.
Horsham E 3 – 6 Horsham A
The wheels seem to have dramatically fallen off Horsham E’s early season good form as they fell to their 3 straight defeat to a strong Horsham A. Dan Barna led the way for the new-look champions with 3 wins including an impressive 3 set win over previously unbeaten Rory Scott. Scott did ensure his average didn’t recieve too much damage though as he beat Tony Catt and newcomer George Harris. Mark Collins provided Rory with some much needed support beating Catt but Erik Van-Mol didn’t have such luck. Harris managed 2 wins on his debut and Catt picked up a single. Horsham A now sit pretty at the top of the pile and no doubt aim to stay there for the season.
Crawley Community A 1 – 8 Crawley Community B
Crawley Community B showed that the alphabet has no impact on a game of Table Tennis as they beat their “higher ranked” A team 8-1. Mayer Majithia and Barrie Gilbert won 3 each and John Hook weighed in with 2. Graham Faulkner managed a small break form the onslaught by beating Hook but Steve Chambers and Graham Green didn’t score.
Horsham F 1 – 8 Foresters B
Foresters B joined their A team in the divison’s top four by dominating Horsham F from the start. Robin Williams and Johnny Clarke won maximums and Gerry Pugh hit 2. Stephen Hoad managed to overcome Pugh but that was it in terms of points for Horsham as Gary Pells and Alex Morrison failed to score.
Week 7
Foresters A 5 – 4 Crawley Community A
Foresters faced a strong Crawley Community A, but still had enough in their lockers to overcome the 5-4. Nick Gamblin and Dave Steel won 2 each and they were supported by Mike Robinsons single to win the match. Paul Carter turned out for CCA and won his 3 with old team-mate Phil Richardson winning their other point. Graham Green didn’t trouble the scorer.
Horsham C 7 – 2 Horsham D
Two Horsham teams went head-to-head and the C’s produced a great performance to comfortably beat the D’s. Graham Carter led the way with a maximum with Colin Jones and Csaba Balint getting a Brace each. Graham Barnes led the resistance with 2 wins but his team-mates Glynn Hydes and Nick Smith couldn’t contribute to the points tally.
Horsham B 5 – 4 Horsham E
Horsham E lost for the second week in a row after their impressive start to the season. Skipper Rory Scott managed 3 wins and Mark Collins recorded 1. Sadly for them, Erik Van-Mol didn’t bring anything to the party meaning Horsham B took home the win. Steve Pound and Steve Barby each weighed in with 2 and Daniel Pound picked up a single to see the B’s bounce back from their loss in the shield earlier in the week.
Foresters C 3 – 6 Crawley Community B
Struggling Foresters lost again to CCB but manged what could be a vital 3 points in their relegation scrap. Andy Meads had no sympathy for their situation as he rattled off 3 wins and Richard Seymour entered Crawley and Horsham Table Tennis with 2 of his own. John Hook took a single off of Jason Clarke. Phil Nicholls gained 2 precious point for Foresters and Chris Pullinger got 1 of his own.
Horsham A 8 – 1 Horsham F
The Champions put on a great show and sent a message to all that they were after another title win. Alex Forshaw and Tony Catt won maximums and there were 2 wins for Daniel Barna. There was slight resistance for the F team in the form of Nora Szabo who managed a single point but their was no luck for Steven Hoad or Gary Pells.
Foresters B 8 – 1 East Grinstead A
Foresters B were yet again impressive in beating strugglers East Grinstead A. Robin Williams continued his fine form winning 3 as did Johnny Clarke. Gerry Pugh kept his obvious improvement from last season going taking 2 wins. East Grinstead’s usual talisman Vinal Patel got their point but was only supported in spirit by Harry Collins and Dennis Hayden, rather than some much needed points.
Week 6
Crawley Community B 6 – 3 Foresters A
Crawley Community B managed to field one of their strongest possible teams for the first time this season and what a welcome coincidence for them that they were up against the league leaders. Mayer Majithia showed his class winning all three edging out Mike Robinson and Wesley Bush-Harris in 5 sets. He was well supported by Barrie Gilbert who won 2 but couldn’t overcome the impressive Bush-Harris. Bush-Harris also beat Graham Faulkner to pick up 2 points of his own. Robinson went home empty handed after he also lost to Faulkner but Dave Steel picked up a single to make it 6 – 3 to Crawley Community.
Horsham D 7 – 2 Foresters C
Horsham D took on early strugglers Foresters C and added to their misery. Graham Barnes took an impressive 3 needing a 5th set to overcome Chris Pullinger. Nick Smith and Gordon Hall both won 2 a piece. Phil Nicholls Beating Hall and Pullinger beating Smith. Inken Diederich (as Anne Robinson would say) “left with nothing”.
East Grinstead A 2 – 7 Horsham A
This was one of the divisons Top v Bottom clashes and the scoreline reflected it. Grinstead’s talisman Vinal Patel picked up 2 wins to continue his bid to lead his team away from the relegation zone but, was not helped by his team mates Martin Jezisek and Harry Collins who didn’t trouble the scorer. Patel did fall to defeat against Alex Forshaw though who went on to get a maximum and Tony Catt and Steve Pound added to the total with a pair of wins each.
Horsham F 2 – 7 Horsham B
Horsham B dominated their club mates form the off with Steve Barby kicking off the night with his 1st win of 3 that evening. Daniel Pound won 2 and Matt Van Yperen stepped up from C1 with ease to gain a double. Steve Hoad managed 2 wins but Alex Morrison and Gary Pells couldn’t manage any wins.
Crawley Community A 4 – 5 Foresters B
The second Crawley Community vs Foresters match-up ended in a win for Foresters. Newcomer Danny Lucking began his Crawley and Horsham Table Tennis life with 2 wins and the consistant Robin Williams matched him. Gerry Pugh mean the win went Foresters way with a single. Bipin Majithia was too much for Foresters though as he ripped through the line-up to win 3. Graham green got a single over Gerry but Steve Chambers didn’t have enough to get on the scoresheet.
Horsham E 4 – 5 Horsham C
Horsham E’s winning streak ended in agonising fashion as they lost a single match from 9. Rory Scott’s winning streak didn’t end though as he won 3. Mark Collins could only manage a single, this coming against Graham Carter, but that was one more than Erik Van-Mol could produce. Csaba Balint and Colin Jones won 2 each for the C’s and Graham Carter cemented the win with a single.
Week 5
Horsham A 7 – 2 Crawley Community A
Horsham A gained a Comfortable win over a strong looking CCA to keep pace at the top. Alex Forshaw and Tony Catt got three each and Dan Barna picked up a single over the empty handed Steve Chambers. The returning Phil “Phillo” Richardson put a point in the bag as did Bipin Majithia.
Horsham B 6 – 3 East Grinstead A
Horsham B were too strong for East Grinstead and ran out 6-3 winners. Steve Pound, Daniel Pound and Graham Barnes all pick up 2 wins each over Dennis Hayden and Harry Collins. Star of the show was Vinal Patel though as he took all three of the Struggling Grinstead team’s points.
Foresters C 0 – 9 Foresters A
Foresters A returned to the summit of the division with a 9-0 thrashing of their club mates. Wesley Bush Harris, Mike Robinson and Gary Bonner all hit trios and left Chris Pullinger, David East (playing up from Div 1 after showing impressive form) and Matt Craig stunned.
Horsham D 2 – 7 Horsham E
Horsham E lost their top spot but still beat Horsham D 7-2. Captain Rory Scott continued his 100% start to the season taking three and Mark Collins continued to show he was in the right divison with 3 himself. Erik Van-Mol took 1 win. Nick Smith and Gordon Hall produced some resistance with a win a piece but no such fortune for Gly Hydes.
Horsham C 9 – 0 Horsham F
Colin Jones, Graham Carter and Csaba Balint were three-mendous as they rolled over Horsham F. Gary Pells, Alex Morrison and Nora Szabe on the recieving end.
Foresters B 6 – 3 Cawley Community B
Johnny Clarke prove the difference in this tight match. He took his three in style and was supported well by Robin Williams with 2 and Gerry Pugh 1. Barrie Gilbert did mange 2 wins of his own for CCB and John Hook a single. No points this time for the never-aged Andy Meads.
Week 4
East Grinstead A 3 – 6 Horsham C
Horsham C picked up their third win of the season and ensured East Grinstead’s poor form continued with a third loss on the bounce. The trio of Graham Carter, Colin Jones and Csaba Balint all produced solid performances taking 2 wins each. Sadly for Horsham, “solid” wasn’t enough to compete with Vinal Patel as he swept through the C team line-up taking 3 points for the struggling Grinstead. Martin Jezisek and Harry Collins failed to register.
Crawley Community B 4 – 5 Horsham A
Horsham A crept past a strong Crawley Com B team to keep pace at the top. Alex Forshaw was the star man as he took a superb 3 wins. The highlight for him, beating the returning Paul Carter 11-6 in the 5th. Carter’s class showed in his other 2 matches though as he beat Daniel Barna and Tony Catt. Barna was good enough to beat John Hook and Barrie Gilbert though to take 2 points for his team. Hook and Gilbert ensured a close result by beating Tony Catt 3-1 and 3-2 respectively.
Foresters A 5 – 4 Foresters B
Foresters A lost their top spot, despite beating their B team club mates in a close encounter. Wesley Bush-Harris won another Hat-Trick and was supported well by Dave Steel and Mike Robinson winning 1 each. Robin Williams put on quite a show by winning 2, as did Johnny Clarke. Gerry Pugh didn’t put any points on the board this week.
Horsham F 2 – 7 Horsham D
Horsham D were two strong for the f team and they eased to a comfortable win. Nick Smith was the star man winning his 3. Gordon Hall and Glyn Hydes won 2 each but Nora Szabo was too strong for Hall and Gary Pells beat Hydes in 4. It was close, but no cigar for Stephen Hoad as he lost his 3.
Crawley Community A 3 – 6 Horsham B
Horsham B inflicted a third defeat of the season on Crawley Community B. Steve Barby showed his class in taking 3 wins only requiring one 5 setter to beat Bipin Majithia. Bipin was too good for the Pound duo beating Steve and Daniel in straight sets. Both Pounds were too good for Steve Chambers though and Steve also managed a good win over Graham Green in 3.
Horsham E 7 – 2 Foresters C
Horsham E maintained their undeafeted start to the season stretching thier winning streak to 4 matches and in doing so reached the peak of the division. Rory Scott notched another 3 and was matched by Mark Collins. Niether required a deciding set all night. Erik Van-Mol picked up a single against Chris Pullinger but didn’t have enough to get past Vlad Petrov or Inken Diederich
Week 3
Horsham A 5-4 Foresters A
On paper, this should have been a tight affair between two sides at the right end of the table…and so it proved. Despite edging a 5-4 win over the leaders, it wasn’t enough to knock them off their perch at the top. There were impressive doubles from Alex Forshaw and Tony Catt and Dan Barna followed up with a single. All three were worked hard though with the whole team going to 5 at one point. Wesley Bush-Harris notched an impressive 3 wins for Foresters with Mike Robinson taking a good point at Barna’s expense.
Horsham E 6-3 Horsham F
Horsham E rose to second in the league, knocking there A team club mates down a position in the process. Rory Scott once again led the team with 3 wins and Erik Van-Mol took 2 wins against the experienced opposition. Erik was desperately unlucky not to take the maximum losing out 16-14 in the 5th to Steven Hoad who didn’t have the same fortune in his other 2 matches losing to Scott and Mark Collins. Collins didn’t record anymore points though losing out to Gary Pells and Alex Morrison.
Horsham D 9-0 East Grinstead A
Horsham D welcomed East Grinstead to the Crawley and Horsham league by producing a demolition job. Martin Jezisek caused Gordon Hall some problems forcing a 5th set but lost out 11-5. From then on though, The D’s had a field day as Hall, Gly Hydes and Nick Smith swept EG apart in straight sets in every other match. Harry Collins, Andy Hayes and Jezisek were left to lick their wounds before they take on Horsham C next week.
Horsham B 5-4 Crawley Community B
The 2 B teams provided a tight contest with the Horsham version taking it by a single point from 9. Steve Barby took 2 wins but didn’t have enough to take 3 and lost out to John Hook. Steve Pound also fell just short of a trio but performed superbly to beat Hook and Andy Meads. Barry Gilbert overcame Steve and son Daniel but lost out to Barby in straight sets. Pound junior did pick up a point against John Hook.
Horsham C 5-4 Crawley Community A
Another Horsham v Crawley clash and another close fought Horsham win. Graham Carter and Colin Jones took a pair of wins each and were supported by a single from Csaba Balint. Bipin Majithia led the opposition with two wins himself but couldn’t overcome the awkward style of Jones. Graham Green could, however, overcome Jones to take what proved to be his only point of the evening. There was point also for Steve Chambers as he defeated Balint in 5 sets.
Foresters C 1-8 Foresers B
Two Foresters teams took each other on in the top tier of Crawley and Horsham Table Tennis for the first time in over a decade and it ended in the B team recording a large win at the expense of their club mates. Johnny Clarke and Robin Williams were impressive in winning all their contests and Gerry Pugh hit a solid double. The only resistance from the C’s was from Jason Clarke as he beat Gerry. Sadly for the Foresters C, Chris Pullinger and Vlad Petrov failed to score.
Week 2
Foresters A v Horsham B
The new look Foresters A team built on last weeks 8-1 win with a repeat performance in this encounter with Horsham B. Wesley Bush Harris and Dave Steel led the way with 3 each whilst Mike Robinson took 2 wins of his own. Steve Pound made sure Horsham did register a point with a good win in 3 over Mike. Daniel Pound and Graham Carter were unlucky in their matches with Mike, losing out 13-1 and 11-9 in the 5th respectively.
Foresters B v Horsham A
Foresters B sent the champions crashing to defeat with an outstanding performance. Johnny Clarke produced a superb treble only being troubled by Dan Barna in a 5th set. Gerry Pugh managed to overcome Barna in 4 to pick up a point for his team but was unlucky to miss out 12-10 in the 5th to Csaba Balint. Robin Williams was too strong for Balint as he won comfortably in 3. Alex Forshaw led the resistance from the Horsham outfit as he took 2 good wins over Pugh and Williams and Barna also beat Williams 11-8 in the 5th.
Foresters C v Horsham F
Another tight Foresters v Horsham encounter saw Foresters again come out on top to give Dave Edwards’ re-born, hut based out-fit a good win, this time over Horsham F. Inken Diederich wieghed in with 2 good wins over Gary Pells in 5 and Alex Morrison in 3. Steven Hoad did overcome Inken 12-10 in the 5th though. Phil Nicholls also lost out to Hoad but was too strong for Morrison and Pells. Hoad was denied an impressive treble though as he lost out to Vlad Petrov in 3. Petrov did lose out to Morrison and Pells to see all of the competitors leave K2 with at least a point each.
Crawley Community A v Horsham D
Crawley Community A heaped more misery onto Horshan TTC as they played out a 6-3 win over their D team. Bipin Majithia was the star of the show as he powered to 3 wins avoiding any 5 setters along the way. Graham Green supported well with 2 of his own over Nick Smith and Gordon Hall. Tony Catt proved too much for Graham though as he edged a close encounter 11-4 in the 5th. Catt also beat Steve Chambers with ease in 3. Chambers did produce a good win over Nick Smith however, winning a marathon match 20-18 in the 5th set. Steve didn’t have enough to beat Gordon Hall though as Hall took their match in 3.
East Grinstead A v Horsham E
It was down the Horsham E to restore some pride for their club, and they did just that beating East Grinstead 6-3. Rory Scott hit a fine treble winning 3-0, 3-0, 3-1. Mark Collins continued his good form winning 2 more. He beat Martin Jezisek in a comfortable 3 sets and his name-sake Harry Collins in 4. M. Collins couldn’t bet Vinal Patel though as Patel fought back fo Grinstead winning in 3 and then beating Erik Van-Mol in 4. Van-Mol did get a point on the board though beating Jezisek in 4 to leave him going home empty handed.
Week 1
Horsham A v Foresters C
The champions returned to K2 and got straight into the swing of things with a 9-0 thrashing of Foresters C. Amelia Thilakarathna showed why he is the Crawley and Horsham Open Singles champion with a trio of wins. His new team-mates, youngsters Dan Barna and Alex Forshaw, step up to Horsham TTC’s Elite team with 3 each themselves. Barna was made to dig deep to overcome Vlad Petrov 11-5 in the 5th though. Jason Clarke and Inken Diederich failed to trouble the scorer on their first appearances in the Crawley and Horsham league.
Horsham B v Foresters B
An impressive start for Horsham C as they edged a tight affair against tricky Foresters B. Steve Barby was the star of the show as he won his 3 in impressive fashion dropping 2 sets all night. Steve Pound got his monies worth going to 5 sets in all his matches. He kept his nerve to beat Phil Nichols 11-5 and Gerry Pugh 11-3 in the deciders. Robin Williams did break Steve’s nerves of steel however, as he took their battle 11-9 in a cracker of a match. Sadly for Robin, The pound’s had the last laugh though as son Daniel avenged his father’s loss with a superb 13-11 win in the 5th over the ultra defensive Williams. Pugh and Nichols made sure they didn’t end week 1 with an average of 0% as they both beat Pound junior 3-1.
Horsham C v Foresters A
Foresters A fielded 3 new signings in their line-up and they got Foresters A under way with an 8-1 victory over Horsham C. David Steel and Johnny Clarke racked up 3 wins a piece without the need for any five setters. Mike Robinson weighed in with 2 of his own Leaving Graham Carter and Csaba Balint going home empty handed. Colin Jones did provide some resistance though with a 3-1 win over Robinson. Do we have a new title challenger on our hands in the form of Foresters A?
Horsham D v Crawley Community B
3 experinced players, 3 wins each and this match looked comfortable for Crawley Com B. Barry Gilbert, Andy Meads and John Hook sent the league a message with this huge win, but it wasn’t all plain sailing as Gordon Hall took John Hook close losing out 11-5 in a deciding set. Tough opening fixture for Horsham, but I’m sure results will pick up for them over the coming weeks.
Horsham E v Crawley Community A
Rory Scott teamed up with two juniors entering their first season at local Table Tennis’ top table. Mark Collins took to it like a duck to water taking 3 wins in impressive fashion. Captain Rory also hit a hat-trick and Eric Van-Mol notched his first of the season on week 1. Graham Green and Steve Chambers did record wins over Eric but Stuart Chambers couldn’t find his old form after returning from injury.
Horsham F v East Grinstead A
A new team were enetered into the Premier with East Grinstead announcing their arrival in style. They ran out 6-3 winners against a new look Horsham F. Vinal Patel and Wen Wei Xu took 3 each with Wen not even dropping a set. Vinal almost matched the feat only dropping 2. Harry Collins found the going tough not registering on this occassion but he came close against Nora Szabo losing out 11-7 in the 5th. Alex Morrision and Gary Pells picked up a single each beating Collins 3-0 and 3-1 respectively.
